Placenta Accreta Spectrum: What Has Changed?
Last updated: 25 October 2026 · Editor: Sadık Kükrer, MD
- With placenta previa, accreta risk rises with the number of prior cesareans: 3%, 11%, 40%, 61% and 67% for 0, 1, 2, 3 and ≥4 cesareans (Silver 2006; previa n=723).
- Ultrasound findings are reported with standardized descriptors (EW-AIP; Collins 2016).
- The FIGO 2019 clinical classification is used (Jauniaux 2019).
- Ultrasound sensitivity 90.7% and specificity 96.9% (D'Antonio 2013); MRI sensitivity 94.4% and specificity 84.0% (D'Antonio 2014). No significant difference between the two methods was shown.
